Best ceramic frying pans to buy UK 2024

ProCook Soho Cookware frying pan

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best affordable ceramic frying pan

Star rating: 5/5

As we’ve come to expect from B-Corp ProCook, this pan came in entirely recyclable packaging which is sadly still a bit of a rarity when it comes to cookware. Once we’d unboxed it we were impressed by the look and feel of this pan, which comes in an attractive selection of pastel colours.

We found the non-stick coating was super effective on test and we hardly needed any butter when cooking our omelette. The pan only comes in one size — 24cm — which makes this best suited to cooking for smaller groups of people. But if you’re in a one or two person household and are looking for an everyday ceramic pan at an affordable price point this is a brilliant option.

GreenPan Padova 2-piece frying pan set

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best ceramic frying pan set

Star rating: 5/5

This is a beautiful looking set of two pans from GreenPan, with a pale blue exterior, gold metallic handle and white non-stick coating – although there are other colours available too. In the set you get a 20cm pan and a 26cm pan which offers a lot of versatility for different dishes.

We did find that, when testing these on a gas hob, they were a little unstable thanks to the heavy handle. This was especially prevalent in the 20cm pan, but wouldn’t be such an issue if you have an induction hob. The non-stick was super effective and produced the best French omelette out of all the pans in this list.

Our Place Always Pan 2.0

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best ceramic frying pan for versatility

Star rating: 5/5

The Always Pan is Our Place’s signature piece of kit. This is the updated version, which not only comes in a choice of three sizes and a variety of colours, but also includes a range of accessories to add to your pans versatility. It might be pricier than many other models on this list, but the added lid, steaming basket (which can double as a colander) and wooden spoon, plus it’s ability to go on the hob and in the oven, makes it a pan you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again.

The non-stick surface is smooth and highly effective, although it’s worth noting that our pancakes spread further than we would have liked because they couldn’t grip the surface.

Ninja Extended Life ceramic 30cm frying pan CW90030UK

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best everyday ceramic frying pan

Star rating: 4.5/5

This is a great mid-range ceramic frying pan for everyday use. The pan is available in a range of sizes: 20cm, 24cm, 28cm and 30cm. The high, slightly rounded sides makes it great for tossing ingredients and there’s a comfortable long handle, although we did find it slightly unstable when using on a gas hob.

The tan interior of this frying pan won’t be to everyone’s taste, but you’re sure to be as impressed as we were by the effective functionality. The pan heated quickly and was responsive to temperature changes, evenly distributing heat over the surface without any hot spots.

Kuhn Rikon Easy ceramic frying pan 28cm

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best ceramic frying pan for students

Star rating: 4.5/5

If you’re after a mid-range ceramic frying pan and value function over aesthetic, this simple model from Kuhn Rikon could be a great option. It feels sturdy with a robust handle made of Bakelite, and is stable even on a gas hob.

On test we found the pan heated quickly, although it was slightly slower to respond to temperature changes compared to other we’ve tested. The non-stick coating was effective and our pancakes didn’t stick at all. This meant clean-up was easy as all it needed was a quick dunk in soapy water.

GreenPan Venice Pro Extra frying pan

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best ceramic frying pan for small kitchens

Star rating: 4.5/5

This model is suitable for all hob types, oven-proof up to 260C and is dishwasher-safe. It is impressive that this pan can withstand such high temperatures, as usually non-stick pans need to be kept away from high heats.

While cooking on the hob we did notice that the base of the pan’s handle got a bit hot so you’ll need to be careful while cooking. We did enjoy cooking with it though, and our omelette was delicious with no stickage or tearing. The colour of our pancakes was a bit patchy but the flavour was good and the overall texture was light and fluffy.

Joseph Joseph Space folding handle frying pan

best ceramic frying pan uk

Best ceramic frying pan for compact storage

Star rating: 4.5/5

This frying pan has an innovative design that sets it apart from others in the list. The handle folds inwards, making it brilliant if you’re short of storage space in your kitchen cupboards as it becomes easily stackable. With a dark coating, blue exterior and stainless steel handle the frying pan looks beautiful.

On test, we found that the pan was a little slow to heat on our induction hob, and there tended to be a hot spot in the centre which meant our pancakes took longer to cook on the edge of the pan.

Is ceramic cookware good for frying?

Ceramic is an effective type of non-stick coating which can be good for all sorts of different cooking techniques including frying.

The non-stick allows you to achieve a sealed finish without tearing foods for example pancakes or a fried egg, and also means you don’t need to use as much oil as you might otherwise.

It’s worth noting though, that non-stick pans (which includes ceramic) should not be heated to high temperatures as it degrades the coating. This means they aren’t suited to certain tasks like deep frying or searing meat at a high temperature.

Is ceramic better than non-stick?

A ceramic coating is a type of non-stick coating which is used on cookware. Traditional non-stick coatings are made using chemicals including PFAS, PFOA and PFTE. Ceramic coatings are broadly made by a process of a gel made from silica which is applied to the metal of the pan and then dried to create the non-stick surface.

Ceramic tends to be more durable that traditional non-stick and can be heated to a higher temperature. Both non-stick and ceramic coatings are still pretty fragile and you’ll need to avoid metal cooking utensils.

When we test ceramic pans we drag a fork across the surface to test their durability against metal utensils.
